It's definitlye a hobby within a hobby! Maybe if I have time day I'll try a little just for grins. First I need a basement to start a new layout.
If there isn't room for a layout in your residence why not join a club in your area. Several of our club members don't have home layouts and run on the LK&R Ry. All members have access to the layout at all times. There is a sign in log that must be filled out when using the clubhouse at times other than meeting nights. It is an honour system that has worked well for the past 24 years. Failure to sign in will result in loss of that members key to the building.
