Just read in the latest CTC Board that some UP units are receiving white cab roofs Anyone out there seen one or have any further info ?? Even better, anyone got pics?? John
It's part of a program to reflect heat (i.e., the sun) from the cab roof, keeping the crew inside cooler. CSX is also supposed to be doing the same thing, I've read. So far, I've only spotted one unit with the white roof, a patched SP MP15AC. It was unusual because it also had a roof-mounted a/c unit, something the SP MP15AC's were never delivered with, but sure to be welcomed by the crews in the upcoming months.

Thanks for the replies. Heat reflection is the only thing I could come up with off the top of my head. CTC Board did mention another railroad doing this though I didn't pay attention to who. Probably was CSX. Cool pic of the CSX unit! At least UP is starting to get alot more interesting for us modelers John
Wow Did ya get any pics? I havn't seen one yet. I'm not convinced white roofs will help with the heat though. I had a car with a white roof. The vinyl seats would still burn you through your pants Now I have an all white car and its no better
No pics. I pass the Colton yard frequently but I never have my camera. I did get some shots of heavy-duty flats with 4 trucks on each car. Those were neat
