While I'm on trains hot and heavy tonight, here's a few progress shots of some updated scenery that my wife's done on the layout.
Keep Momma happy! She's really into this layout. She even has her own toolbox and is in total control of the scenic materials. (trees, ground foam, etc.) I'm constantly under pressure to get more of the of the scenic base done so she can keep working. "Her goal" is to get the whole layout sceniced before Xmas. NOT! I've got a 3'x7' industrial area to lay permanent track on. That trackage is all Unitrak right now. I laid it down temporarily just to get a feel for what works for the area. I stuck my foot in my mouth the other day about the scenery. My original concept was to theme the layout in the Wyoming and Utah area. She overheard a friend and I talking on the phone on the subject. Big mistake! I had to "explain" to her that she could do whatever she wanted with the scenery as long as she stayed involved. If this economy ever turns around, I plan on putting on an 18'x20' addition that will house the rest of the RR. That will give me plenty of space to change up the scenery and get some real mountain railroading into the scheme. As to the lighting, I need to tone dowm the voltage on the station area. They really need to be wired to a DC powerpack. Once I go DCC, I'll have a MRC 260 to use for lighting control. Right now my Dual Power 2800 is absolutely maxed out on power for lights. If I put 2 more bulbs on it the overload trips. LOL! We plan on getting photo murals for the backdrops when that time comes.
She's crackin' the whip! She is truly a keeper but she can a slave driver too. I've been instructed to get her next project ready asap. There's another corner that she's itchin' to get started on. I'm probably going to loose my mine location in favor of a small community with company houses. BUT SHE"S NOT GETTIN' MY INDUSTRIAL PARK! LOL! You've gotta' have some switchin' don't ya? In all honesty, she loves trains as much as I do. If the sliding glass door was somewhere else on the west wall, She'd want the extra space for a longer layout, now! Like yesterday. One downside is the trackwork is only 32" off the floor. She prefers to be able to watch the trains operate while sitting on the couch or in her recliner. The old layout was between 42" and 48" high. She didn't pay much attention to that layout. This one she really likes. Thankfully, she doesn't know how to operate the trains!:tb-wink:
ROFLMAO!! But she does great work. The vines on the retaining wall is a great touch that I never would have thought of.
Looking good. I always think all the details like the people and lights give the final touch to a layout.
You have a great wife who does beautiful work and I bet she will become an engineer in the near future! Hold on to her.
