I am in the process of building a new layout using Atlas Code 55 track & Switches. I bought one of atlas's deluxe switch machines to try but after trying it last night I do not think I am going to use them as they are to flimsy. Has anyone got any advice on the machine to use. I have been thinking on the Tortoise as I need multiple contacts for live frogs and lights:angel:
The Tortoise is very popular, and easy to install. $13.20 each in a 12 pack at MBKleins (some train store.com)
I'm in the same situation myself. I did buy an Atlas Code 55 switch machine yesterday but I think I might exchange it for a Tortoise as my turnout will be on a WS incline riser and putting an Atlas machine would be awkward. Plus, those things are HUGE!!! They're almost as big as the turnout itself!!!
Can't go wrong with the Tortoise machines. And you can get them from Brooklyn Locomotive Works 12 for $148.95 = $12.41 ea.
Wig-Wag has them for $13.13 each in the 12-pack. Furthermore, Wig-Wag supports the TB by advertising, which is worth far more than saving 72 cents from stores that don't support the TB.
I bought my first Tortoise today! I'm installing it under an Atlas C55 #10 turnout...ON A WS RISER! I'll post pics later on how exactly that was done
Ain't the free market grand! Each of us gets to decide what is "worth far more". It is also worth something to have multiple outstanding suppliers available to us. That said, George and Debra already get 90% of my business and I didn't feel the need to suggest Wig-Wag because they do already advertise here.
