Hey guys, I remember this question was answered on here once before, but I could not for life of me find it now. I have a Kato HB-E300 locomotive and there was a special decoder for this engine (and the end car). Digitrax makes one that will fit but the lighting wont work (not listed on their website). I cant remember who makes it, I don't think it was NCE either. It was pretty much a drop in and it will have the correct micro LEDs for the front and rear lighting.
Even NGDCC doesn’t seem to have one... http://www.snjpn.com/ngdcc/KatoCompatibilityList.htm (Use bing translate to read) however if you can find the Kato model number for the light board, and cross reference that to another model, you can find a decoder to fit possibly. Relocating smd LEDs is not trivial but also not impossible.
I was not looking for the constant lighting mod. Tho if I was keeping it DC that would be a good mod. If I remember correctly the decoder was TCS, but my computer here at work wont load the website. Kato's boatd number is 6095. It's the same form factor as a F40PH engine. The only difference was the SMD LEDs
