I think you'll get more than just insulated joiner location info... :)

I simply ask myself... where do I want to park an engine?

and of course, you only need to insulate one side to create your blocks.

    have fun!

You run with DC or DCC? In both you need insulated joiner for frog polarity and for tracks where you will place you engines.

Which tracks will the engines park on?
3 turnouts are reached by crossing the mainline. Do those turnouts serve a classification yard or are there several industry sidings over there?

To summarise, what are the industries or services on each track, what trains are you planning on running and will you be parking any engines on any tracks, are you planning DC or DCC, which scale and brands/code of turnouts?

All the questions in the above posts will assist in indicating where to sensibly place insulated joints.

First off, what code and brand of track are you using? Peco switches provide power routing, I am pretty sure unitrack does too. Something really unseful in a small layout.

After that I'd say go DCC and you won't have to worry about it. :)

If you are set on analog, you basically need to put an insulator anywhere you think a train needs to be stopped while others go by it. It's sort of a personal thing.
