I have been listening to the scanner frequencies at CSX/NS Decatur, Alabama.

    http://www.railroadradio.net/

Is that where your trains operate? Thanks.

    It seems pretty busy.

Wish I could listen to San Antonio, too, but that is not offered.

[edit] You know, this is pretty neat. I can listen to the scanners and be on TB at the same time. What will those electron guys think of next!! [IMG]

Yup. Listening in can be really fascinating. Especially when things aren't going quite right. Then it can be a bit colorful. And some real characters are heard.

JD: Decatur is down right now. Is this the area where you operate? Thanks.

Just checking the maps. Omnitrax doesn't look like it ges as far west as Decatur. It goes to Guntersville.

Guntersville is the end of the line for us. Used to be car ferry's that took cars across Guntersville lake to Tennessee. Still a very cool area.
From there, it's south to Albertville, Boaz, Gadsden, Glencoe, Wellington,(This is where the L&N line used to cross the SCL. Now, we run the old interchange track, and follow the SCL main.), Ohatchee, Ragland, Odenville, Saine, Irondale, and into Birmingham where we cross the NS, and run on CSX for a couple miles into Boyles Yard.

Thanks, JD. I did some map study. I was based south of there in Selma and went to Montgomery some, but I was not familar with the NE part of the state. Definitely some hills up there! [IMG]

Here is some more history of this railroad.....
The section of mainline between Guntersville and Gadsden used to be the Nashville, Chattanooga, & St. Louis Railroad. The L&N ran parallel to the Dixie Line from Ivelee to Gadsden. Both entered the yard at Gadsden and the yard was divided between the two railroads. From there they ran parallel south, with the NC&StL veering off right before the street running at Gadsden. It branched off, and ran to an interchange with the TAG railroad. The L&N, as I posted above, continued on south.

It was leased from CSX for 20yrs, with an option to re-lease after the 20yr lease is up.
The LTEX power is owned by us, the new operator, Alabama and Tennessee River Railroad.

    JD,
Yes, I'm not that far away. Sorry that I couldn't remember the name of your line. I hope to get over that way this spring and get some shots of you guys in operation. I did catch one of your trains leaving Birmingham last year. Will have to find the pics and get them posted. Even though it's not that far from here, the last time I was in Gadsden was probably 10 years ago.
