Today while I was at work I was able to look at some redundant signalling equipment so I took some pictures to show you guys.

    1. This picture shows old point (switch) machines and a few Train Stops.

    2. Some redundant signals and level crossing lights.

    3. Here is a close up shot of a Westinghouse point machine

    4. This picture is of the 120 volt induction motor, it is easy to know it is an induction motor due to the starting capacitors.

    5. This picture shows the detection slides that detect the position of the points and the lock slide that ensures the points are locked. The electrical contact blocks electrically switch detection and motor operating positions.

    6. Brand new point rodding ready to be shipped to site

    7. A redundant upper quadrant signal mechanism

    Paul,

One of the three position signals would look great in my hobby room as well as the red crossing lights. [IMG]

But the freight from OZ to the USA would kill me. [IMG]

You'd make a fortune on eBay with those!

Occassionally we need an urgent part that is not readily available to our maintainers will visit the area and remove what they need from the old equipment.

We also refurbish equipment as well so some of this will be re-used.

hmmm never thought about selling on Ebay lol but its Government property.

Oh [IMG] I thought when you said retire you meant bound for the scrap yard. Yes, selling gov't property on eBay (although it is tried occasionally) would be very low on the good-to-bad scale
