Just wondering where everyone went. Nothing new on here since March 5th. I been away for awhile but I keep checking in every once in awhile. EVERYONE COMEBACK! PLEASE! [ 15 March 2001: Message edited by: Jack Doran ]
Not to worry- must be that no news is good news. They're not parking coal trains like UP, nor using poopoo bags like the Horse Road, nor dealing with declining coal loadings like the Cat. That, and some of the regulars are digging out of the last blizzard...
I'm still here Jack. I am just working on the road crew laying track like mad. Well, more like frown than mad.
I really don't have anything to talk about right now. I haven't been out railfanning since this last October due to the weather. It seems like it that way for a lot of us, not much to talk about right now. I'd bet after Spring gets started and Galesburg Railroad Days, things will pick up!
Railfanning. When all the eastcoasters are getting pummelled with snow, I was shutterbuggin'. I am no pro, but I have some pix in my photopoint album. See my website.
OK, I am here too Does anyone know if BNSF has received all the C44's yet, or are there still some to be delivered? What will the final total be? Are any other locomotives still being built, like SD75's? I rely on you 'locals' to keep me informed

I haven't gone anywhere! Just been caught up with the opposite gender I'm trying not to get too caught up!

Both EMD and GE follow a system where you can order any recent power. So if WC does want SD80MAC (which they are rumored to be wanting) EMD will build them SD80MAC Basically now you can order almost any 710 powered equipment SD70M/I though SD9043MAC. The only 710 powered equipment which EMD has offically quit building is the 60 series. You can also order any 265 powered equipment which would currently only be the SD90MAC-HII but soon that could include the SD89MAC. (the Phase One SD90MAC-H was discontiuned due to the engine/electronics/computer failures.) As for GE the C40-9W, C44-9W, AC4400CW, AC4400CWCTE, AC6044CW, and AC6000CW are all currently avalable.
Locomotives are usually designated by horsepower. Does anyone know what capacity, i.e. cc or litres of the prime movers? For instance, cars (automobiles are rated in litres (liters), so what would be a C44 in these terms. I believe that 645, 710, etc. is the size of the cylinders? but is this cc, cubic inches, or what? Questions, questions, questions
No I don't Alan and I am a Engineer I don't really handle alot of power besides General Motors units . SD70/75I's SD40's ect..
Last I checked, the 710, 645, 567, etc. means simply the displacement in cubic inches of a single cylinder. So if it is a V-12, a V-16, or even a V-20 645 prime mover, it is still designated as one single cylinder's total displacement. The 710G engine has a diameter of 9 1/16" x a stroke of 11". Think about that for a moment.... That's more ci than 2 Chevy 350 pickup truck motors! Cool, eh? -- Data from Contemporary Diesel Spotter's Guide
I to haven't had anything to talk about. I been busy digging my share of snow also here in Galesburg. 27 inches during the month of december and it took until now to melt all of it. I have recently moved away from my track side location into a trailer on the outskirts of town(landlord compilcations) Gee I am going to miss being at trackside The only upside of this argument is that I have more space.

There was an auto parts store in town that had a piston and connecting rod from a V-20 sitting on the floor by the counter as a conversation piece. Unless you have seen one of these up close, it doesn't register how big it is. How would you like to do a valve job on a V-20? I thought my V-12 Pierce-Arrow car was bad!
I had a friend who was a chief engineer in the merchant navy. He was just under six feet tall, and he could just lie down across the top of one of the pistons of his ship

Don't know if it needs a new paint job or a mass of Christian burial...........

quote:
Originally posted by Scott Siebler: The article in MR about 2 years ago states that EMD will no longer build SD80MACs and that the only ones that will/have been produced are the ones for Conrail.

Well scott MR (like they allways are ) was wrong in this case. What I said are from the words of a employee I know at EMD. I really dont think he would be wrong. As for the GE info that is what is beleved to be correct. (I dont know anyone who works for GE)
I think if a unit is in EMD's current catalog, they will build it if you pay for it. Like if railway-x wanted SD40-2's tomorrow, EMD would build them, even though it's kind of a dated loco. Money talks and....
