SP/SSW When did SP stop using Cabooses?

    I was curious what year or time frame did SP stop using cabooses?

    late 80's from active service, however some stuck around to the end being used as shoving platforms.

    The SP bought their last caboose in 1980, but were trying to phase them out with their 5 passenger cabs on some GP35's....FRED's became common in the mid 80's, yet the SP did use them until 1994....This one was used out of Tucson on the main until1994 and was last used on the Buckeye local, being donated to the Arizona Railroad Museum in 1996...

    They never stopped using them entirely. They stopped using them on mainline trains. Some have lasted untill today in SP paint in service on the UP.
