What was the date, for the GN first adopting their last pre-Sky Blue Goat Herald? An example of this seen in the avatar Hemi uses in other threads found in here the GN FF forum.....

Well, perhaps I've answered my own question. I found mention of the year 1935. Now if only somebody can confirm this for me?

From my limited information, the last goat prior to the sky blue goat came about in 1936. At that time the lettering around it said, "Great Northern Railway." Prior to that in 1922 to 1935 " See America First * Glacier National Park, Great Northern." It looks like they had two heralds in that time frame.

Looking into it through some of my BN books, I came across the following info on the logo. It seems "Rocky" first appeared as Great Northern's logo trademark in 1921. there was also two different ones from this one from 1921-1936. 1936 to 1967 had another version, culminating in the version used with the big sky bl [IMG] ue scheme starting in 1967.

Looks like I was close. I never could get used to the Sky Blue scheme. Nice color of blue. So no problem there. Perhaps it was the drastic change in the appearance of their passenger trains. Just didn't look right.

Maybe it's me, but I love BSB,and passenger trains wearing BSB looked great. but I am a young'n, and have never seen any of the GN trains intheir heyday, just in books. I do see BSB woodchip gons on a regular basis....

I'm even younger than you Hemi and I prefer Omaha Orange and green, classy. I love the blue on locomotives, but like it was mentioned, it was a drastic change and it just didn't look right. If they had gradually changed, it might have been better recieved.

If any of you guys are in HO, Atlas has just announced a run of GP7's in Big Sky Blue (along with Rock blue and Conrail blue, is there a theme here?) ;)

    Hey Hemi-

Don't feel bad about the wallet. That's one of Murphy's Laws. "The supply of good stuff will always exceed the ability to pay for them..."

I just had a thought- What's been happening with your layout recently? How about an update!

    Sorry for the late reply.

Thanks!!! I know its been a while since I was here, but in '04, got married and working, now I am also back in School.I haven't had much time on here, about an hour a week, but I am going to the Train Show in Monroe Washington, this year (next week actually) It is hard to stay in the hobby, with work school and wife, but I helped Start the Bellingham Railway Museum and volunteer there as much as possible.

There's plenty of time in a day! Just give up sleeping, eating.... :D Be sure and report back what you find at Monroe! Watch for other TrainBoard members. There should be several!

Ya, when there was a solid train! Most of the time they were mixed, old and new.
