My friend took this picture a few days ago in Farmers Branch Tx.: ALAX 35218 Yep, I know it's a 3 bay, but what's the piping for on the top? I've never seen one like this before.
The obvious question is "What is the car parked in front of?" Other than that, I'd guess that it's some kind of compressed air set-up for assisting in unloading, maybe. Dave.
Maybe it is owned by some bootleggers and serves as a mobile distillery for booze? I couldn't help but notice the reporting marks were ALAX (alcoholics anonymous?)
It's parked near a paper plant (I think). They usually get covered hoppers in the normal grey scheme. This one's just "wierd".
I agree - the pipes are the top of something between the car and the building. May have nothing to do with the rail side at all.
Notice that there are 2 sets of pipes. The rounded set near the center of the top of the car, and some smaller angled pipes, looks like 3 of them, just appearing above the roof hatches. Did you notice that 2 out of 3 of the unloading caps are off the bottom. Could this be pneumatic unloading equipment that has done it's job and has been folded back against the wall, so that it doesn't get knocked/torn down when the car is picked up?
