The last couple of weeks I haden't to much time to work on Rosetown City because I was 2 weeks away but I want to show you the result of a Kitbash I've done (not finished yet). It's a Schoolbus Depot. I've turned this: into this: Still some weathering and details to do. Also the Buses are not finished.
Nice work! I noticed Randy Brown is selling pre-finished school busses on ebay now. They would go great with this structure and yard.
Fan-Freakin-Tastic!!! Does the "F" in your name stand for "Fantastic"? For this is what your 10 year project is looking like!! Not just Wow! But Super WOW!!! Please post future progress!!! Thank you for sharing your project with us!!! Hobo Tim
Thanks Tim, that means a lot coming from you. I'm finished with this project, it will never run on any layout because I have dismanteled it and will rebuild (redesign) it (eventually) after addressing some of the problems incountered during the build. The next version will have a faulhauber 8/16 w/ a 4/1 gearhead. I have a QT movie of it running that I can attach to an email and send it to you if you like. ( Don't know how to post it on this forum) Steve
Jurg nice work on the building! It really was well done! Steve that is some great work also! I am constantly impressed and inspired by people's work on this forum. Well done!
Movie? Cool!!! Steve, I would love to view the movie. Send it to me at: sgt_tim1@yahoo.com During your re-engineering/construction of your loco, please make a photo archive as you go! This is a very interesting project you have. No doubt more will join me in wanting to know more!!! Thanks!!! Hobo Tim
If you know what I model in my NEER layout you know for sure that I like this work you have done too. Coool, pleas keep us up to date on your progress Steve
Steve, You are fast, because this is the first I have ever seen a Marklin modified this much. Please post as many pictures as you can. Kim
Kim, Thanks. The stantions are glued to the roof. I used a very small amount of CA to "tack" them in place, then used a very small amount of Testors liquid plastic cement. The testers was applied with a pin and was drawn under the stantion. The stantions were from a Bowser N scale detail kit that I cut down to size. They are injection molded plastic. The wires were threaded through the stantions, then bent. The spring tension of the wire would hold them in place, but I added a touch of CA to the ends just to be on the safe side. The stantions are a bit large, so I doubt they would be usable for the loc. I might have another idea, though. I'll get back to you. Dan S.
2-6-6T Mason Bogie Torsja, Yes I know the Needle eye and it's environs through your web pages. Your modeling is excellent. I'm glad you like my little hack job. Chris, Many parts of it are from the Mason Bogie kit. Steve F
Kim, I don't know the ins and outs of getting photos into the messages and I have not tried to put anythig in the photos section yet. I can do this... Steve
Thank you for you kind words Randy. This is the link to the Kit: http://www.1zu220-welt.de/gebaeude3.htm
Well, I bought a couple of those SP Mikado sets from Needfull for $99 each, and was really upset with the looks of the Marklin freight cars that came with it. The cabooses are ok, as they look like ATSF Way Cars, but need trucks, couplers, and repaints into ATSF schemes. The boxcars are funky monkey, and will get either traded off or chewed up by my cats as sacrificial fodder. The gondolas look weird too, as they compromised on the length of the fishbelly to fit those big ol fatty fat trucks, so those might be sanded down to use for a small creek bridge. The Coal Hoppers are the closest to usable, so I did the MTL mod on them: I ground off the bolster bumps, and made new bolsters out of acrylic, ans set them back to where they look right, but I had to go a bit more outwards because the couplers were in the way, so the cars have extremely close coupling, but do not touch around 195mm radius. Close, but not touching: Had to get rid of the suicide knob brakewheel that Marklin uses, so I made some 22" Ajax brakewheels as replacements. Also used Karin's coal, and a bit of Bragdon's powders to finishe them off. Did not bother with the renumbering, instead I selectivley scrapped off numbers to you could not tell the car number.
I finally finish my Athabasca CN caboose, now I'm ready for the coming of Micro-Train's SD40-2 with a CN scheme. ( I wish! :teeth: ) Man! This caboose has so much hardware on it that it took me forever to finish. The decals dilemma is not complete though. Ben
