Thanks! The project was started with the help of Robert Ray about 7 years ago, perhaps longer. The shells are his baby as will be the tender he creates. As for the UV 5 second glue. It works wonders where CA misses the boat. Tim
It's is a slow project. Above photo of castings of 3 set spine cars and castings of two 53' trailers. Update to my 57' Spine Car Progress Spine cars painted but no decals yet. Three 53' trailers painted awaiting decals too. Hobo Tim
At last, a project I started in late 2009 has produced its very first, and complete, 57' AP Spine Car. Full photo shows the spine car complete with three trailer loads. The spine car bodies and trailers are cast resin. The spine car rides on AZL coupler/trucks. The end walkways are left overs from the old E&D Models 48' spine cars. I used Floquil and Testors enamel paints. Brass screws with tiny styrene bushings hold the trucks to the spine cars. The decals are all custom printed on my ALPS MD1000 printer. The 57' Spine Car set can be configured to carry one each 53', 48' or 40' trailer or two each 28' trailers or one container 53', 48' or 40' in length. Typically you see these spine cars sporting either 28' trailers, 53' trailers or 53' containers. Lighting was not good when I tried to capture the details. This is the "A" End (No Brake Wheel). If you look close enough you can see air lines along the spine. This is the "C" Car in the middle. The "B" End with the brake wheel. Hope you enjoyed the photo tour of my latest addition to my intermodal collection. Now that I have completed one set I must embark on making a few more as my intermodal collection is not as complete and diverse as the modern railroads are. Hobo Tim
The rivets on the B end trailer look awesome. Good job on all the labels. Nice to see some mixture. I just got a dozen AZL Centerbeams on a great deal now I have to make a *lot* of wraps and lumber loads.
Getting ready for Zedex 2016. Finishing a 'Virgin' livery Class 86 A.C electric (Shapeways by IvanF) Seen here with one in the old 'Railblue' livery Might try and get one of the Mk I coaches somewhere near. Again Shapeways by IvanF Stonysmith has made a start on doing British Z, first example will be the 27T iron ore Tippler that I am hoping will be here in time for Zedex. Also well on with lettering up the MEA open wagon made in etched Nickel Silver Seen here just get an unofficial move with the dozer bucket! Kev
I am making the transformer for a RTV mold. Going to mold it this weekend and pour some copies. I need 6 castings right now. I just finished making 5 of these 125ton HD Flats and they each need a realistic load. I am looking to see what kind of a tie-down system I am going to need then they will be complete. Hobo Tim p.s. Wait till you see the other HD Flat I am working on!
Just beKEZ you can read small print doesn't mean I am or am not hiding something. [An eerily evil laugh is heard in the background] Just gonna have to wait and see what my next few postings hold! Hobo Tim
Actually I still have some big wagons as part of the fleet Me and my team look after These babies are getting a bit long in the tooth now so are parked up These are quite new and can carry just about everything They'll go round a curve the size of a dinner plate! Going to get some done in Z later this year once the show season dies down Kev
The frame is 98%+ complete for the depressed section. I just need to add the deck and deck supports along with end pivot pins. The end decks need 1 hour of fine tuning, then all will be ready for the casting process. Hopefully by Sunday the styrene masters will be 100%. I have etched ladders and brake wheels for the end decks. I accidentally broke off one of the 4 lifting eyes on the transformer so I have that to repair then the transformer will be ready for casting too. Will post more soon.
Almost finished. The transformer lifting eye is done. The deck is secured and the ends are finished. The only thing left it the deck supports. I even glued on some temporary ladders on the ends.
