Fluke is still the gold standard in my book!

However, the True RMS feature may not be fast enough for DCC waveforms (my Fluke 117, with True RMS, is not accurate measuring DCC track voltage).

Mr & Mrs Moose went to first MRR swap meet in nearly two years, and brought home these lovelies:

Three 50 foot flatcars, the top one is SP&S and will remain as-is, each of the other two will be bashed into something different - bwaaa! (insert evil moose laugh here). Good deal at $8 each!

And could not pass up this horribly oversized boxcar, to be repurposed for a "some day" diorama. Could not pass it up at $3!

It’s a little outdated for my layout-but couldn’t pass up this Old Style boxcar. [IMG]

Speaking of other meters. I have a Micronta (old Radio Shack brand) that has a Fluke board in it. I’m guessing that Fluke was making these meters for Micronta. I have had it for 35 years and it still works perfectly.

My luck with RS meters was not so good... I never noticed if the board inside it was made by Fluke, but I doubt it, given the lack of quality and life.

I don't recall off the top of my head, but I'm not sure it would be linear with track voltage either. Once sampling is below ~2x the waveform Fmax, it falls apart. I also didn't measure it with varying data traffic either. Would have to set up a rectifier and filtering monitor circuit, and that would still have an offset (diode drops), but would be much better.

My Pi SPROG 3 reports the track voltage (really the supply voltage to the FET drivers, IIRC, and it is still not super accurate) which I can display in JMRI. SPROG/JMRI can also display track current. Neither is good-multi-meter accurate though (Fsample notwithstanding).

I hit the jackpot today! A bunch of Kato Japanese prototype trains. My powered addition for a Shinkansen I purchased earlier, and a new set of the E3-700 Series Toreiyu Tsubasa and something REALLY neat, A Kato 50th Anniversary C50 steam loco.

Really nice haul. So I have to know, first is it beer? And does it say Fat Cat? Sorry the other stuff is amazing but this caught my eye, and I don't even drink beer :) And do you have Cat's? Is it a brand of beer? The things we notice!

I'm guessing Fat Cat is a brewery. I've never had it, but I do have a small collection of pub glasses. I use the Fat Cat glass for beers that I don't have a glass for. Yes, I am the weird! Oh, yep, I do have a cat. Her name is Chloe.

This meter wasn’t cheap, back in 87 when I bought it, it cost me $100. Today it is my go-to meter for just about everything. I still even have and use the factory leads.

Back in '87, RS still sold some good stuff... Not many things from that era (or later) held up so well. My second computer was a RS Color Computer II (replaced my TI 99/4A). If not for being obsolete, I would probably still use it. Basic multi-meters are among the few things that really haven't changed that much for most users. Sure, some have new bells and whistles, but most still get used primarily for measuring voltage, current and resistance.

Got some Noch street marking stencils and not totally happy with them. Cannot use the paint pens with them only sharp point pastel pencils and too much European stuff. And I got my spark arrestors in so I can finally finish my boxcabs.

Have on order some traffic lights for the main street of Friday Harbor.

So I got a power supply for the Lionel Polar Express train and got to try it out today. It needs cleaning badly! It does run and all the sounds seem to work just fine. I did turn off the smoke effect, that stuff stinks.

I bought and ordered some tools I will be needing. I need to repair an N flat bed and assemble several HO cars and models. Sorry still no pictures.
