And what did the first CSX paint scheme look like? Living in primarily NS territory, seeing CSX engines are a rarity, unfortunately. But still, am I curious as to when the first CSX trains appeared and what they looked like. If this question's been asked before, sorry for the repeat.
The first CSX scheme was the grey and blue scheme that had "CSX Transportation" spelled out on the side. If I am not mistaken, this was applied to a GP40 first. ( # 6636?) Harold
The first new units painted in CSX were the "stealth" units... (solid grey). I think the SD60's and C40-8's were delivered like that. Harold
I don't remember offhand what the first unit was in the "bright future" (YN2) scheme, but I am pretty sure that the first unit repainted in the "dark future" (YN3) (current) scheme was an SD50, # 8503. Harold
Thanks, Chessie! I love looking at CSX trains, and wish I could have the best of both the CSX world and the NS world too. I wish I could've seen the first scheme in person. I've seen the bright and dark futures, but not the first one scheme. I think I definitely missed that one.
You didn't miss much In fact, there are some variations of the stealth scheme and grey & blue running around today... Harold
I found some pictures of my first CSX Transportation catch... # 6382. I'll post pictures as soon as I can get my scanner to cooperate. Harold
Harold, Looking forward to seeing that shot. I think the first units I saw in CSX paint was a pair of the 7500's when they were new. They were in the all grey scheme with blue lettering and fuel tanks and had the slanted numbers on the cab. They were really a neat sight. Wish I had some spare time to dig out those shots and scan them. Guess I'll just have to wait and see yours.
Richard, I remember seeing those 7500's in "stealth" with the slanted GE applied cab numbers. I think I saw the class unit, 7500, leading a train in Richmond, Va. I'll have to dig around for that too.... Harold
I took this shot with a telephoto lens from a nearby parking deck... shows good rooftop detail. Also, if you look carefully behind the farthest billboards, you'll see a Norfolk Southern train also! Harold
According to my Withers' CSX roster book, # 6382 was renumbered to 6478, which would indicate a "slug parent" Harold
Hey, I saw # 7509 today... still has the stealth scheme, but an addition of the yellow nose and white cab roof! Harold
