Since I grew up in the 60's I rode Santa Fe once and I have alway loved passenger trains and the Santa Fe SUper Chief. I always loved the look of the war-bonnet paint scheme. Santa Fe all the way. The Chief is coming...
My dad was a Car Inspector for the SP West Oakland Piggyback yard. I visited there a lot. I even got to run a SW through the yard. I am very partial to SP. But for some reason most of my roster is GN. ?One reason, I like the far north western states. ?Another is the imaginary Jaeger Vally Railroad (JVRR) It connects the towns and industries somewhere in mid Oregon with the Cities and SP, GN NP and UP. *And the name..Great Northern.. What attitude...the best. But I seem to be getting more SP as I go on. Byron
Growing up in IT-GM&O-IC-ICG Territory, you'd THINK that's what I'd model, but as many of you know, it's not. Having to travel on Old US 51 to LaSalle-Peru, IL. to see my Grandparents, we would pass under the Double-Track of the Santa Fe Railway. Not many times when there wasn't a Train of some sort flying on it's way to Chicago or L.A. Of course, down on the banks of the Illinois River at L-P, we had the Rock Island and CB&Q. Anyway, that's why I love the Santa Fe and throuw a little Rock and "Q"-BN in the mix. I have Modeled the Current BNSF but have recently stepped backa few decades and now model the Mid-70's to early 80's. This way, I can have someRock Island Action at Chillicothie, IL. on my planned layout. I'll even throw in some GM&O (I do like it also.) for a little flavor. But it will always be the Santa Fe as my first "Railway Love". "Santa Fe...All The Way!"
