I chose Station Agent, as a tribut to my Grandfather who was a Depot Agent for the Milwaukee Railroad [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

Station agent sounded interesting. I would prefer to be the small town or country agent. Say at a Milw or NP depot. But there aren't too many of those on Amtrak. :(

I've always enjoyed the challenge of fixing things. Have worked in building/repairing freight cars. And otherwise spent most of my years in the auto repair or after market performance areas. So bending wrenches it is.

Station personell are taking it hard this go round in the Amtrak cut backs. It just amazes me what stations they have been cutting back at and in so making some no longer handling checked baggage. There are some places that handled alot of baggage that now will be turning it away and I'm a fraid service and ridership. The one that effects me most here is Pasco Washington.they did sometime 1 to 2 cartloads of baggage and express. Now nothing, so now when #14 is late into Klamath Falls the passengers that are bussed to make the Empire Builder connection have to go on to Spokane another 2 1/2 to 3 hour bus ride. Just real stupid. If Amtrak does go under I will probably end up back in your area Boxcabe50, I would revert back to my frieght seniority and that was working out of Whitefish.

    throttlejock-

I'm certain you've kept in touch with compatriots up here. The BNSF realignment of Divisions made a mess of Whitefish. Even more so than previously.

What Amtrak is proposing has everyone east of the Rockies, (across eastern MT and through ND), in an uproar. They've already quietly made some of the changes this year, (jobs abolished, closed agencies, reduced services such as no checked baggage, etc.), that many folks far away think are still just in the planning stages!

From their windowless ivory towers on the east coast, they cannot comprehend that many small communities out here depend on Amtrak for travel and both personal and business shipments.

    **Sigh**
