Went with 'Other". Was gonna vote "Run only for fun, out of reality". BUT....Other the a 'Yoda" hidden in the trees on a hill...most of it is 'reality based' ;-)
I don't know if the translation quite panned out, so I picked the one that sounded closest to what I'm doing. I'm planning prototypical operations, including switching out industries and interchanging with a Class 1.
Yea...the translation part may be skewed. Like I said...I woulda picked #1..."Run only for fun..." but the last part of it "....out of reality."...had me thinking hmmmmmm.
An interesting poll. Well, I want to enjoy the fun of running through miniature scenes, which also remind me of places known during my youth.
I selected #6 since I model compressed, but realistic scenes that c atch the flavor of the prototype, but I run for fun. I do try to keep the rolling stock plausible within a D&RGW up to 1987 era, but other than that, I railfan my layout.
I checked 6 as well since both my Q layout and my T-Trak stuff is based on real locations. The Q layout is pure industry and is switching only. The T-Trak however, while based on a prototype, is just for fun round and round railroading with little scenes that make keen observers smile.
I had to check other. My layout is a freelance, but goes through actual towns and serves industries that either were there, or could have existed. A point to point layout mainly for switching, but with hidden staging tracks that can permit continuous running. I chose the transition era as I grew up in that time period and really enjoy steam and the early diesels.
I also checked #8 for about the same reason as above - my layout could be real. It's based on reality, but is a made up place and scene.
Hello again!!! As to me - my aims - to modell work of station duty officer near model of real deck, to modell train driver via videocams at model cabs , to modell new ideas for railroads. Also, my layout can work with automatical train control with realistic smoth stops with interlocking. I also can model shunting operations, such as loco change, car change, using in-loco or in-car distantly controlled knuckle uncouplers. Also, i plan to make freight car sorting hill. saying in general, i m interested in engineer ideas rather than in scenery work. -------- Vadim
Operating my layout is for fun and modeling enjoyment. It does not represent any particular locale but the era is 1985 to 2000 Conrail. My goal is to have it work reliably and be fully signaled.
As a conclusion, one can see, that almost all people have emotional "for fun" aims. But, general question appears: Where I can find out people, who are interesting in engineering aims in railroad modelling field? ---------- Vadim
I guess number 8 would be the only thing that would apply. My new layout design is a point to point. I am modeling a logging line that is also a common carrier carrying other commodities, like livestock, ore, and stone products, plus providing a limited passenger service beside serving the logging industry and seaport switching. While the railroad name is fictitious the actual operation of a logging line as a commercial carrier is not. The design is very low tech with no DCC and almost all turnouts being manually thrown. Small wheelbase locos with some narrow gauge flavor in a number of tight radius curvature spots. Single track mainline with enough room to have some decent running time with slow moving geared locos. Turning for those locos is two turntables. one in the port facility. the other in the log camp, and a small wye at the end of the line. In short a switching layout that has a fairly long mainline run and some grades that require double or triple heading of short consists.
Hello John. I investigated Your trackplan.... Usually, any freight station must have receivig-departuring yard and walk way for loco (some parallel tracks), an exhaust way (dead end track in aim to pull trains from one yard and push them to any another). This is quite convenient solution in aim to create freight logistics using minimum direction change numbers. Also, You can equip loco with locouncoupler and/or every beginnings of sorting/freight yard tracks - by undertable electromagnents. --------- Vadim
