There are still more than 5 days remaining on the auction.
It is probably a powered engine which was offered at the minimum price to attract attention. It may or may not be in working order... if you noticed the description... they did not test it to see if it runs. The most likely final sale amount will be around $40 bucks which would be a good price for a used Kato F unit... as you can find brand new ones from $55 to $70 bucks.

It is a STATIC non working model, part of a series of world wide locomotives produced by Del Prado and available through monthly suscription.

Type in Del Prado on your ebay search and see what comes up.

A static Del Prado model of a UP FP-7 is worth about what it is listed for. I didn't remember that there was an FP-7, only an FP-9, but I've been away for a while. Might be a good candidate for a conversion: use the shell under another mechanism. IIRC, the Morrison-Knudtsen shell wasn't bad, and subject to a lot of knock-offs by resin casters.

Mine says it's an FP7 and, at one time, I considered seeing if I could slide a LifeLike BL2 chassis under it without too much work! Never got round tuit but, it's still on the back of my mind. Some of the Del Prado locos look like they could be fairly easily converted, especially the F-45 and FP-45. I did a conversion of an old Lima FP-45 using the older Bachmann SD 40 chassis. I suspect I could do the same with the Del Prado shells. Someone on one of the fora talked about powering the Krauss-Maffei shell but, I don't know if it was ever accomplished.

Pete,There was indeed FP7s..The FP7 was 3 feet longer then then regular F7..The extra 3 feet was needed for the steam boiler.

I managed to get one of their Rio Grande Krauss Maffei diesel hydraulics to see if I can power it, a LL PA1 mechanism looks the most likely candidate unless anyone has already done it and has some ideas.

a silly question, but here goes:

WOuld it not be easier just to get an Intermountain FP7 and be done with it, rather that try to put that Prado shell on a working chassis?

Where's your spirit of adventure?!?!? LOL

On another forum, a gentleman posted that he had motorized the Krauss-Maffei with an old Trix U30CG mechanism and, like me with the Lima FP45, powered the Del Prado one with the older Bachmann chassis. Projects like these can be fun, besides giving your layout a little something "different".

I'll have to look at that, I've got a few old Minitrix U-boats lying around somewhere.

The FP7 can be motorized. With only minor trimming to a Life Like F40PH mechanism, I was able to literally "drop" the shell on it. Couplers presented a minor problem in that they stick out too far but, that problem can be worked on later along with some grabs, maybe!
