While photographing trains this week, I saw this new addition to a CSX SD40-2: It looks like a GPS dome and a warning beacon !? Harold
I thought after the great runaway (SD40-2 # 8888 ) it might be something like remote emergency braking or tracking So, what's the deal? Are all locos getting this or just SD40's? We had a GP40-2 (#6002) in town last month that had the cab mounted triple set of lights, although they were mounted on the front of the cab, not on top Harold
Harold: According to what I have read, 100 units will be equipped with remote control equipment. These will be GP40-2's and SD40-2's. Chris Toth
I have also seen on another post that this is the indicator light for the stand-by diesel unit that keeps things warm and charged up without running the prime mover. The engine with new paint is an SD50 and has one on the long hood, engineer's side. Could be, but still need to explain the antenna thingy.
