hello all, i was watching a show on discovery channel on friday and was taken to a "secret" location below the waldorf-astoria in N.Y. which is connected to the subway system. it was built specifically for F.D.R. so that he could enter the hotel without changing cars. the question i have is, now they have a railcar down there now that looks armored, and the trucks have been greatly fortified. it has a massive amount of rivets. anyway the reporting #MNCX 002 is all the info that i have. have any of you old timers out there on the eastern seaboard know anything about this car? thanks guys, ahead of time.

    Good Show

I caught the same show, was going to ask the same question. The lack of information available on the internet lends credence to the story. The number does seem to indicate there may have been another (MNCX 001?) which is often the case with high security transports.
I felt the show was well done and the information presented factual. I immediately started searching for information and found only a few sites mentioning it, some containing comments by people who clearly had no idea what they were talking about. When I searched Trainboard and found nothing, I knew this must truly be a mystery.
MNCX is currently used by Minnesota Corn Processors. My one caveat is that the paint was in great shape for a car 60 years old. I would think underground it would be rather damp.

thanks SLSF, it seems that the debate will go on. each person had a valid and logical explanation. the problem i saw with the minn corn guy is that he is talking about a different era. i think this car might pre-date the 80s by 35 yrs. besides the president story is much more intriguing. thanks all.

I didn't know FDR ever had a Pierce-Arrow car! The 1933 model Pierce I had, ran like a dream, so I would certainly love to have his, if it is still stored down there.
Just open the doors, and I'll bring my own gas and a new 6 volt battery too! The one they illustrated was the 7,600 pounder I think. Mr Downing had one that I got to ride in as a little boy with my father one day. I got to ride in 'my own' little seat that unfolded from the floor in the back! :D

That one has been debated for a long time... But considering the story about the president, it does seem like it was most-likely used for that. Or maybe it was supposed to be used for that and they never got a chance.

Only bad thing about that show is the host... But I think they got rid of him. The one about German WWII stuff was cool.
