Well heres the continuing saga - after the first one melted i bought two new shells to repray and picked up a new can of silver spray as i was running low. The first shell i sprayed came out ok. Then i sprayed the second shell with the new can to discover that some bonehead had switched the lids in the hobbystore! It was more like metallic gunmetal grey, thats another restrip - just look at the difference, will teach me to test the spray next time...

Either you are correct and that is the wrong paint or, it is just a VERY heavily weathered Amtrak F40! I learned a similar lesson when I didn't test spray and wound up with splatter marks of paint instead of a nice spray. Oh well, live and learn.

    Paul,

Do you really need to stip it though? I would try just spraying over rather than stripping it again.

I edited your post so show the image in your post rather than clicking on the link.

Whoa, that looks nasty! My sympathies. I haven't done much painting for the past three years. But I always started the airbrush on a sheet of newspaper, just to make sure it wasn't sputtering.
