I am starting this thread for folks to highlight the completed scenes on their layouts and to describe what is happening in the scene.

I will start with this example.

Today an officer of the Kachina NM police department had to be dispatched to the T Leary Chemical Co. to a small disturbance by plant workers.
Works claim unsafe working conditions and are demanding better safety and wages. Moments have been tense between workers and managers which was escalated by a worker spiting on an un-named managers shoe.
No arrests were made and the protest continues in a safe manner.

Here is one from a few years ago. Seems there was a rock slide that covered the tracks.

Billy Bob finds it and races back to warn the train due any minute out of Klunky Junction.

He meets the train and waves frantically.

The train slides to a halt just in time.

From a few years back now. A Fall fishing trip up to the mill stream and pond results in an unscheduled bath. The Western Pine Lumber Company had a double water wheel powered sawmill up in the hills and the stream that powered the double water wheels through a diversion channel was known for it's large fighting Trout of 3 or more pounds. The owner allowed folks to fish in the stream and pond on the property. The only restriction was no fishing on the mill side of the pond and stream, the exclusive domain of Old Billy. Old Billy was renowned for taking the opportunity of launching unsuspecting mill workers and the occasional unwary fisherman into a low earth orbit.

In this shot Old Billy, standing on the rock, has just launched a fisherman, who ignored the warning about fishing on the mill side, and is now hanging on to a log in the pond. A couple of the mill workers happened to see the impromptu bath and are paddling out to rescue the fisherman. Meanwhile his buddy is celebrating the biggest catch of his life on the opposite bank safe from Old Billy.

Unfortunately a poor quality old picture.

The 2nd is from one of my modules slated to be incorporated into the ranch section of the new layout. The Basque herders have successfully moved the herds from the high meadow to the winter grazing on the lower meadows and have not lost a single sheep or lamb during the spring through late fall grazing season. The ranch cook has a whole dressed deer on the spit from the fall hunting season with sections stuffed with bacon and onions, slow cooking over the wood fire with an occasional basting of his secret recipe. Herders are starting to gather in anticipation of the impending feast.

    Great stories, folks!

I'd love to contribute something, but at the moment the caption would have to read something like "In the beginning, the earth was without form and void..."

Hank and Buba, the two power company line men up on the pole to the left in the photo, showed up for a typical work day. Little did they know a new gubment agency, that was charged with worker safety, had an agent show up on the work site. As usual, the boys wore their cowboy hats to shield their heads, necks and shoulders from the harsh Texas sun. The agent was screaming at them from down below, demanding that they come down and don proper protective head gear. "What in thunder's he tawkin bout?" Buba says to Hank. "Well, I think he is thinken we should wear some of them new fangled plastic Army helmets that are all the rage these days." Hank answers back. "Well we got to finish up this job first, then I guess we can go down and see where we might git some of them hats." Just then the buckle on Hank's tool belt gave way and away it went straight down knocking out the gubment agent. "Well I'll be durned. " says Buba. "Maybe we should aught to get that feller one too."

I like the idea, sort of like having the movie theatre with a marquee advertising a movie from your year, or an election year billboard, if applicable. But, then the protest would have to be from an easily recognizable strike.

Or you could just go the humorous route, like having a building labeled "Model Railroader Magazine HQ" and having the signs say "More N Scale Now!"

I once placed a high rise and had a banner, as if it was a pre-opening sale. The banner read "Downtown views from $169,000. Rail yard views from $1Million"

Ever since his parents gave him that car, he spends all his time and money on parts to soup it up. A kid should have a hot rod to work on, but even fixed up it's still a hippie car.

If he needs any mechanical work done, I'd highly recommend Mahoney VW repair, in Modesto. Here's the shop, a customer just pulled in and is in the office talking to Jim Mahoney about the knocking that seems to be getting worse in his orange 69.
