Been out of railroading for a while, bout 15 or 20 yrs. Recently had a friend pass and decided to purchase his collection and I think I got my self into more than I bargained for. I was used to blocks, switches and the likes with a few engines but he has more transformers than I would have dreamed of. Extensive collection of steam and cars. N gauge. If someone could contact me to kind of guide I would appreciate it. John, 59 from Arlington Tx

First, simply take a detailed inventory of what you ended up with. Specific items, post pictures of it here and somebody will be able to ID it for you, and give you alot of advice, and info on specific items..

Lets hear more about what specific things you have now, so we can help you get started again in the hobby..

    Welcome..

Welcome back to railroading and especially N scale.
Here's a link to the N scale locomotive encyclopedia.

    http://www.visi.com/~spookshow/locos.html

That should help I.D. your engines and give you some idea of what to expect from them.

Once you have an idea what you have you might also want to call one of the advertisers here on Trainboard to discuss what you have and how it can be utilized to do what you want.

Welcome to Trainboard. I perhaps can help you as I have about 40+ years collecting and modeling in N Scale. If your items came in boxes or if you either list or provide pictures, I would be willing to help you identify, rate and get the most out of your new purchase. Ready to go right here, if you want the help. Feel free to PM me if need something right away.

    Hi John:

Sounds like Marc may be closer to you geographically if you are in Texas because I am in Pennsylvania. If you have something to email me (list/photos etc) I would be glad to help. Our collection includes hundreds of engines and thousands of cars (soon we will live outside while the trains stay inside). So I have seen and have access lots of historical, performance and price guide information. BTW Marc, as a proud Reading Railroad family with almost 90 years of service, I love the engines on your website. We may need some custom painting and additions (my wife is calling her attorney now I just know it) to the engine roster in the near future is that something you and the boys do? Curious minds would like to know.
