I was doing some research on a project I'm thinking about doing and I came across the term "Driveline", what exactly is a driveline on a locomotive more specifically a GP20?
Probably used interchangeably with drivetrain. Can be any length and connected to either or both ends of the engine block and used to power auxiliary equipment and the main generator that creates the electric current to the traction motors. In some cases part or one of the drivelines may not be inline with the engine block but side driven through gears or belts and pulleys. But essentially it transfers power from the engine block to everything else. We have a few engineers here so I am sure one will give a much better description than I have. With our models it is simply the shaft connecting from the motor to the truck gear towers.
The driveline is the assemblage of parts that makes the loco go. It is what connects the motor to the wheels. Nothing more, nothing less.
