After making my post with the question "How? removing body from IM FP7" I received a couple of responses. I have to admit that I was troubled by one in particular. It had a picture of a hammer. At first I thought OK theres one in every crowd, you know a kidder. Anyway I finally removed the body from the chassis. WHat I learned is that this body was not designed to be easily removed. Now thinking that the hard part was over I started looking for a way to lower the back end of my FP7 body so that it would sit level and match the roof line of its counter part B unit (I think the Intermountain railway company signature is to give all their N scale A model F units a slight forward leaning rake like a dragster, stinkbug, jackrabbit?) At an attempt to remove this forward leaning rake I performed a minor filing procedure. Next I went at putting the body back on. As I went to apply pressure on the body I hit a snag that held the body back and was going to require a considerable amount more pressure. The body still had to come down another 1/8th of an inch or so. It seemed best to stop and re-evaluate what was happening. So next I removed the body and looked for anything that might be causing the snag. The only thing I could find is a couple of wedges on the plastic body that are supposed to align with a couple of coresponding groves on the chassis. So I thought I will make another go at it. This time I tried applying the pressure at different points on the body. Then snap the body landed in place at least I thought it did. What had happend is the body came down hard on the draft gear box mount. This action caused the mount to shear off. What did I learn? Probably the filing was unnecessary. To lower the body the draft box mount needs to be lowered. As far as how to remove the body of an IM FP7. I am still not sure but I will be trying it again after I get a few draft gear box mounts that I will modify so that it can be lowered to the proper height.
