If, for whatever reason, you had to reduce your current collection of locomotives down to just five, what would they be? These have to be locos that you currently own. Here are mine. Athearn Challenger w/Tsunami Sound UP 3985 - I lived in the middle of Nebraska for many years and chased this steamer through Grand Island many times. Atlas Shay - Sugar Pine Lumber - The coolness factor of the tiny rotating parts and it a smooth runner. That and we may never see another loco like it in N-scale. Con-Cor Burlington Zephyr - This is probably my favorite train. It runs so smooth and quiet; the lighting is nice. Great set. Athearn 2-8-0 Consolidation - White Pass - A really nice running little steamer. Fleischmann 1116 Taurus w/Sound - Railjet - Beautiful locomotive and the sound is incredible. I am interested to here yours.
Argh. This would be extremely difficult to focus on so few. My favorite Atlas c/p MILW SD9. Atlas MILW GP9. A Kato c/p MILW SD45. Kato MILW NW2. An Atlas M&ST.L RS1. I think. But not certain. Have doubts. Cannot make up my mind. Uhhh....
A few from Atlas A few from kato An older LL I converted to DCC Anything else can go on the 'Deadline' as far as I am concerned...
1. MP mogul (as modified with SPECTRUM tender 2. E-R B&O shark 'as delivered' paint 3. Atlas GP-9 TT B&O 'as delivered' 4. Kato P&LE USRA heavy Mikado 5. MP B&O USRA light pacific (as modified with SPECTRUM tender
Here are my favorites - they all happen to be Life Like as I've had by far my best experiences with them (having a nice Kato and many Atlas' that just didn't act like I want them to). These LL's run like dreams on my layout. LL - B&O E8 - Monster puller, smooth and quiet. LL - B&O Sw9/1200 - Just a beautiful little switcher LL - N&W GP18 - I've painted the rails to bring it up to prototype a little. It's a fantastic puller/climber even at slow speeds. LL - C&O BL2 - I really like how this looks
All of my bullet trains Several of my Atlas GPs My Streamlined Hiawatha Couple of my Kato 6-axile Almost all of my Steam B&O - Sharknose You get the picture.
Kato Kobo "Celebrate the Century" P42 Genesis Kato SD70ACe UP Heritage 1995 C&NW Kato P42 Genesis Amtrack Heritage (red face) Atlas MP15DC UP Athearn F59PHI Seattle Sounder I would really have to contemplate how I got into the position where I'd need to sell the rest. We're talking a "Walking Dead" scenario here.
Ummm...Grey One. You only get to keep FIVE (5) of them. This is supposed to be a thinking question. I will admit that the FVM Hiawatha Atlantic that I have might replace the Athearn 2-8-0. Decisions, decisions.
"I'm sorry Dave. I can't do that." Seriously, it will be painful enough parting with my fleet as I de-accumulate my trains. I try to think of what would I do / what I would mss if the place burned down or I was forced to downsize the pike.. Large Layout: 3 Bullet trains 1 Haiwatha train set 1 Atlas GP Wait! 2 Bullet trains 1 Con Cor stream lined something 1 Haiwatha 1 Kato CP 6 axil 2 Con Cor U50s pained by Hemi in Great Northern colors. No, No! Let me see. Sigh, what's the use. On a small layout it's easy: 2 Atlas GP 1 MP 4-4-0 1 Con Cor streamlined something 1 Kato powered truck thingy I could make shells for.
Been giving this idea a little thought over the last two weeks and have come to a few choices. MP 4-6-2 with ESU Loksound & Spectrum tender B'man 2-8-0 " " Kato Mikado " " LL @2-8-8-2 " " Bmann 4-6-0 That leaves 23 that are duplicates or just didn't make the cut although I love 'em all. The layout of my dreams is never going to happen - with long sweeping sections of track that will hold 100+ car coal trains and freight so there is some question in my mind as to whether I should hang on to that much surplus steam not to mention all the diesel and electric power. There may be some sales in my future.
Sounds like a MRer's "doomsday scenario"; only 5 locos... I guess it would be either my 2 micro-ace 0-6-6-0 mallets and 3 MDC/Athearn 2-8-0's, OR all 5 of my MDC/Athearn 2-8-0's
This is too hard a question. I'd start by choosing my two PRR brass Decopods. They'd be the first ones on the list - can I count them as 1? :teeth:
This is a tough one, but if I had to choose: 1. NS ES44AC #8097 2. NS ES44AC #8100 3. NS SD40-2 high hood 3293 4&5. Two of my NS C40-9Ws
That is a tough one. T&NO Sunbeam P-14, 4-6-2 in Daylight colors that I kit bashed from a Con Cor/Kato Hudson. T&NO F-1, 2-10-2 that I kit bashed from a Kato Mikado. Santa Fe 4-4-2 kit bashed from an Atlas/Rivarossi Pacific. MoPac (IGN) Ten Wheeler kit bashed from a Micro Ace Pacific. T&NO Ten Wheeler kit bashed from a Trix Pacific. My five would be: Bachmann B&O EM-1 Bachmann B&O EM-1 Bachmann B&O EM-1 Bachmann B&O EM-1 Bachmann B&O Light Mountain (modified with Vandy Tender to reflect a B&O Heavy mountain using the Light Mountain drivers to get the correct diameter drivers) Never thought it would be all Bachmann, particularly considering the amount of KATA Mikes and E-8/9 I have. Cheers, Bill
Not a hard choice for me since I only have 5 top-rate locos. They are: A Bachman New Haven 44-tonner An Atlas New Haven RS-3 An Atlas CNW SD-9 An Atlas CNW GP35 A Intermount NYC F-7 (Always meant to repaint it into CNW)
