Sung to the tune of Jet Airliner By Steve miller Leavin' home, out on the rails I've been down before Riding along in this big RDC-1 I've been thinking about my trip But it's Courtenay that seems so far away And I feel the engine fall apart The Conductor's trying to make me stay You know I've got to be getting home Chorus: Oh, Oh E&N Railiner Dont' break down too far away Oh, Oh E&N Railiner Cause Courtenay's where I've got to be Goodbye to all my friends at VIA Goodbye to the VIA agents I trusted It's got to go out and make its way It might make or get busted But that horn keeps calling me here As I get on that RDC-1 Riding high I got my fingers crossed You know you've got to go through Nanaimo Before you get to Courtenay Chorus Pulling in to that BC town Feel the rain coming down I've got to keep keepin hope You know the big wheels don't always spin around And I'm going with some hesitation You know I can see That I don't want to ride when it's making Funky sounds below my feet Chorus Chorus Chorus Oh, oh E&N Railiner Carry me to Victoria Oh, oh E&N Railiner Cause it's there that I belong
Its to bad many won't understand the humour in this little ditty. I think you have to do some more versus and I will provide some hints to get you going: 1. Something about having your life insurance full paid up 2. Naked bungee jumpers. 3. Blink and you'll miss the train. 4. Ride the train through the wheat fields (the over grown grass). 5. Something about duct tape. 6. Or one of my favourites (the around Shawnigan Lake) the dogs that chase it and almost catch it.
To the tune of "Last Train to Clarksville" by the Monkees Take the last train to Parksville And I'll meet you at the station You can see naked bungee jumpers 'Cause they've got nothin better to do Oh no no no, oh no no no 'Cause that girl you saw flashed the train And I must see her again We've got one more ticket and the morning brings my train And I must go Oh no no no, Oh no no no Take the last train to Parksville I'll be riding in the rear We'll have time for coffee from the truck And some mooners through Nanaimo Oh no no no, oh no no no Didididididididididididididididididididididi Didididididididididididididididididididididi Take the last train to Parksville No, You see the dogs are chasing I can't hear you over this pack of dogs runnning down the train I'm feeling high Ahhhhhhhhhhh (repeat first verse) Take the last train to Parksville (Repeat to fade) [ 01 April 2001: Message edited by: E&NRailway ]
Great stuff guys. I am not a poet but someday may try to write something like this. I have been to the Island a few times and like it there. Have friends and relatives living there too. When I was in the RCAF my desire was to be posted to Comax but that never happened. Oh well A good friend of mine has a model railroad called The Island Pacific.
E&N, your RDC-1 is magnificent!!!! The Budd Company was far ahead of their time. Even at that, they sold thousands of those "lovely" ugly beasts. I stood at the front window of an RDC-1 next to the Driver, while we were rocking and rolling (literally) at 80+ mph through the overgrown meadows (and rails!) of western Massachusets on a long since destroyed sub-branch of the Boston & Albany in the spring of '51! WONDERFUL!!!!! On the other hand, although your verse may not qualify for "Best of Show" at the Shakespeare Festival, I'll give it a darn close SECOND PLACE! Thanks, Hank
