Wow! I'm using Unitrack and have been toying with the idea of ballasting it. I don't think I'll be doing that anymore! Very nice job!
It's a mix of WS light grey with just a bit of WS cinder . Tried to match the Unitrack plastic as close as possible . One of these days I would like to try AR&M products , maybe once I get working on my HOn3 module again .
OK got to working today finally ! I tore out the mountains along the back , and started to rough in the new scenery . Got new track laid ( which took care of a couple minor problems with the old trackwork ) and tested . Tomorrows agenda is to finish the rough in and get a coating of Sculptamold down . Scene will be trackage between two tunnels with a winding stream that is crossed twice . Here is the old version And after demo
Lots of progress today . Roughed in the ground cover ( still wet ) , ballasted track ( also still wet ) , foliage added to the mountains ,worked on stream, and tunnel portals painted . Need to get to the Hobby shop for bush material , trees , and WS water next .
I've been able to do a bit more work in the past few days . Mainly weathered / rusted up the bridges and added some trees and bushes . Got the stream bed more or less finished also . Need to order some Heki and Faller products for the rest of the bushes ( way better than WS products IMO ) and get some water poured .
Seeing it sceniced, there's something off about the hydrology of your creek Mike. I think it is how it widens under the bridges that seems unnatural. Perhaps a wide sandy bank on the apex of the creek bends as they turn under the bridges will help.
There are rock slopes on either end of the bridges to keep the abutments from being washed out ,so the stream isn't going to be quite as wide as it appears at the moment . Also there will be sand/rock bars towards the middle under the bridges and sand bars on the inside of the bends where silt would naturally settle . I think I took flow into consideration , but if I'm wrong it wont be the first time !:uhoh: Yea John its small , but manageable . LOL
Wow, Mike, this looks great! Like someone else said, it adds a lot more interest back there. What are you using for your water? I may have missed it, but could you explain how you removed the existing hills without destroying surrounding areas? I feel I may end up doing something similar in the future .
Hahaha ! The old hills were removable . Left them loose so I could access the track if I needed to . Unfortunately I could access it but not work on it . That was one of the motivators for making the movable benchwork . Plan on using the WS water in a bottle . Used it before and like how it works . Just don't pour it more than 1/4 " or so at a time . Too thick and it takes forever to cure .
Mike, the layout looks fantastic and great progress!!! Thanks for the complement as well. Keep up the great FUN there!!! Mike
