... did any of them survive to CSX? I've found a couple good shots of Western Maryland GP35 that the late Tim Marletter (used to be a Trainboard memeber) took. Engine #3579 but are black with yellow lettering and as far as I know were taken in the early 70's on a B&O train in Grafton,WV.
Did 3579 ever have the red and white "Circus" paint scheme? I have 2 GP35s laying around and are in need of a new paint job, and details. :D

    Good question, Pat...
I don't know about that particular unit offhand.... I do have a few CSX GP35 unit photos on my website and actually one is C&O! I would need to try and research the unit you asked about further.... maybe someone else has the information?

I know of one that made it to CSX ownership, it stayed in the red/black/white "Circus Scheme" for awhile, and when CSX renumbered it, it got white cab numbers and not black ones as it should have been. BUT I can't remember the cab number off hand. I'll have to look it up!

I was gonna say from the knowledge of WM's diesels that I do have, not many made it past Chessie, when CSX was created, almost the entire fleet of 1st generation diesels (GP7's, GP9's, GP30's , likely GP35's) had been put away on storage or scrapped. 3579 may not have made it that far. . I recall seing pictures of several diffrent trains that had like 15-20 engines each mostly mixed chessie, B&O, C&O old "junk" as it was to Chessie at that time. I love high-nosed geeps, I hate to think of what became of them. As far as I know they were sent to Cumberland, MD, Huntington, WV, and Huntsville, Ala. and a few other places and never seen again. Pat,
I FOUND the loco I was talking about! Sadly I had mistaken it for a GP-35, when in reality its a GP-40! Heres the picture! Notice the white cab numbering and not black numbering on a white block as it was made to be by the Western Maryland... Its the only WM loco to make it to the CSX roster in full red/white/ & black! :D

surving Western Maryland GP35's to CSX

As os 6-11-13 only 2 original WM GP35's exist today. Number 3576 is CSX roadslug #2311. WM 3580 was also a roadslug on CSX as #2295 but was wrecked and scrapped. The only true WM GP35(#3577) still under its own power is now a GP39 and its on a shortline as WAMX 3921.
