Happy Friday all! Kicking off the Weekend Proto Fun with a pair of switchers I came across on the Morristown and Erie back in May of 2008. The Washington Terminal unit looked nice but the Amtrack 742 look pretty rough. Was a neat find that day!
A couple straight from the phone, no Lightroom trickery involved. Dawn yesterday as a local grabs bad orders in downtown Minot. The Peace Garden State's only railroad tunnel, abandoned since 1986, Cartwright, ND.
From 10/27/2019 at Blythewood, SC, 192 has worked Columbia and is advancing north. Scheduling changes now terminate this train at Columbia.
Locomotive and Rolling Stock Hall at the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania awaits visitors this morning, in Strasburg, PA.
How about some old Chessie? Mix with equal amounts of old and new Canadian Pacific and serve. My Dad's photo, August 1979.
Not too long after I was hired into train/engine service. I was forced to a work train as a brakeman. It turned out to be a great job while it lasted, for me, I learned a lot, and worked with a great crew. The Hoghead was "Pepper" Martin, the conductor "Woody" Woodward, and many MW guys, that changed a lot. Those MW guys were so fun to work with, many times we laughed so hard our sides hurt at the end of the day. Although I ended my career as a Hoghead myself, I treasure the time I spent working thru the crafts. Hey, I was living my dream job, and getting paid to do it. Those guys I worked with in my early years, put up with a lot of questions and they did their best to help me understand the job, as a job and not a hobby job. Simply put, you need to separate the two, to learn and survive on the job, I wouldn't trade the experiences for anything. Here is our brave steed, DRGW GP40-2 3099, tied up in Glenwood in the back track. Now we are in the "house track" in Rifle CO. Yours truly in the cab sitting "we did that a lot" in the house track at Rifle CO, waiting on trains. In the 1995-1997 time frame we ran a lot of trains east of Grand Junction. Same unit a bit later sitting in Grand Junction CO. I never could figure out the light leak in that Chinon camera. Note the horn has been changed, but still has the DRGW light package, pre-ditch lights. Also note the axle generator (#2 axle, E side) for the speed recorder has also been recently changed. Thanks for taking a look.
Nice photo set, Tom. What's even greater is that I'm looking at photos of an engine that can be associated with someone here, someone who we can exchange with. It's like the older gentleman I met at Exporail, in the cab of CN 9400 - he actually was a mechanic who worked on that engine. Thanks for the photos and even better, the personal story behind them.
The number looked almost familiar. I had to go check one of my photos. My dad checking out the 3088 in Glenwood Springs back in September of 1989.
