    Back to Donner. For most people, this would be an idyllic picture of Donner Lake on a cloudy day. For me, all I see is the train snaking west on the ledge above.

    Well, I don't know that one calls a thousand feet of granite (measured from the lake which is at 6000') with a railbed chiseled out of the side by Chinese workers a hillside. ;) but yes. Snaking between the snowsheds.
