A couple of GE ES44AC Tier 4 demo units have made their way back to Roseville. Hopefully the power desk has been remembering to put fuel in them this time. I loved the cloud cover in this shot of one of them in the Engine service area. Big big big radiators.
The radiators really do look something with older units to compare to. And I seem to recall similar units being dubbed "Klingon battlecruisers" by some wag.
If those buggers get any bigger they'll have to hang some warp engines off them to get the thing moving...:teeth: It looks like someone built a garden shed on the back end of the unit.
I was having fun in photo shop. I applied the "people filter" to this shot from 2010 to get rid of some tourists standing track side.
Nice. Don't see a non-tourist train caboose often these days. Let alone one in regular service, with some Christmas spirit.
Don't remember if I posted here or not. When the first GECX Tier 4 demo unit made it's way out to Roseville in May, it did some testing over Donner to test performance in the big hole (Track 2 summit tunnel, long, not vented). Rumor was that the unit "Failed" up there. Well, after some poking and prying of some friends in the engine shop, the truth came out. The unit hadn't failed, what happened was that the hostlers and power desk were presented with foreign power that wasn't leased, not paying back hours and they didn't know what was going on, so they didn't fuel it. It was then put on its test train and sent to the summit where it ran out of gas. At least that's the story being told around Roseville. Though the Power desk would prefer it was not.
