It's that time again - Weekend Proto Fun 12/09/2022

"I think we are going to need a bigger ladder!"

Ever since my son moved from Cub Scouts to Boy Scouts, he has been collecting aluminum cans and goes to sell the to a recycler once a year. Well, we made this years trip up to Cartersville DA this past Saturday. As we were leaving, I noticed the ladder leaned against this old war wagon and it gave me a chuckle. The weather was a bit gloomy and got worse so we didn't do much train watching. However, I did come across this old Blue Circle Cement hopper. Haven't seen one of these in years.

Hope you all have a great weekend!

Overcast day at the B&O's summit of the Allegheny Mountains, Sand Patch, PA, 11/28/1981. It was Thanksgiving weekend and I couldn't make the long trip home, so joined some friends for a jaunt to Cumberland, MD and environs. The Holiday Inn there was well known for its grand trackside view of the B&O mainline, so was THE place to stay. :)

Wasn't there a Ponderosa pine tree on the D&RG narrow gauge outside of Chama with the lower branches near the tracks scorched off from the steam locomotives? The one on the Northgate has the dead branch on the wrong side. [IMG] [IMG]

A young railfan waves to the crew of NS 268 eastbound heading towards Wyo JCT on the NS Harrisburg Line. I'm not a fan of the burned flag on the UP GE.

I believe the UP has come out with a new paint scheme where they moved the flag so that it won't get scorched.

Moving the flag sounds cheaper than fixing the engine.

Can't see it either. I know this happened with some of Hemi's pics in the past where some could see them and some not but don't remember why.

Got it and worth the wait -- a great image. Such sparse ND landscape. Love it.

Add in a thousand trees, squeeze part of a train in somewhere and you'd capture the essence of eastern railfanning.
