April 28-29, 2012 along the tracks in Marshal, Texas. No market for pulp wood?

Interesting, that's a pulp car style I wasn't aware of. The style I'm familiar with stows 4' long "pulp" logs in a vee position. Down here, any logs longer than 4', typically 8' or more, are called a "stick" logs used for dimension lumber. Then you get into whole trees which are called "pole" logs whose use is obvious.

I'm not really sure what those cars were really for. Vine trellises?

    Current use accepted. :D
However, according to photos this style also is used for pulp. Obviously paper mills using longer pulp logs have different feeder and pulping systems than I'm used to.

In oregon those cars would just be used for full sized logs. Both the bulkhead version and the no bulkhead version.

We called those "broomsticks". Nearly worthless for pulp and paper. Not much wood fiber and difficult to debark. We'd approximate their volume by the cord and not pay for them, incenting the supplier to cull his loads before shipment.
