Feel like I may have posted this one before, but worth posting again. San Diego Santa Fe station. I lived in Carlsbad for 6 years. I would move back in a heartbeat.
Russell, that GP9 looks immaculately maintained. The troops taking care of it must have a lot of pride in their work. Here's a big CNR class T-2-a 2-10-2: IMGP6423_CNR_T2a_2-10-2_4100 by Mike VE2TRV posted Oct 6, 2016 at 9:32 PM That 80% next to the class designation, under the road number, means 80,000 lbs of tractive effort. These big bruisers were built by CLC in 1924, and hauled heavy trains over CN's Jonquiere subdivision during WW2, bringing the necessities of life and victory over the heavy grades and tight curves of this line. They were replaced by MLW FA-1s by 1950, easing the strain on the track and the engines (twice the driver tire wear and three times the track wear because of the long fixed wheelbase). These boys sported what was the equivalent of a Comfort Cab for steam engines. Oh, to have seen one of these beautiful machines in action...
Not of a train (which I'd have caught by arriving 5 minutes sooner), but of another depot. Took this yesterday of the Amtrak (former SOU) depot at Spartanburg, SC in Hurricane Matthew drizzle. I'm actually happy to have this picture, as the sun is positioned in a tough spot on nice days. The structure was MUCH longer in the golden era.
Had a day of rain so I got a couple of rainy day photos. Early afternoon manifest eastbound out of Glendive, not a well lit set, but it has a nice mood I think. And the later afternoon sun lit these guys up with a heavy pile of cloud cover east of town.
