It's may of 2013 and of course I've found rain in the desert. Specifically at Barstow.

I'm just getting over 'Rona, so nothing new this weekend.

3 kinds of markings on CP boxcars at Portal, ND.

Nowadays, such a grease slick would fetch an EPA inspector lickety-split... Back then, I understand this was common--was it accepted?

Love the FP45, but what's with the UP SD40-2 behind it? Looks like an ex-Mopac unit?

I never gave it a second thought, other than to step around it.

It was very, very common. Nobody ever paid any attention.

The garage where I learned mechanic work, at both original and second locations always just dumped their drain oils and other fluid. The motor oil was used to keep dust down on a driveway adjacent to the shop. Emptied oil cans were simply burned. Etc. Nobody paid attention, until the later 1960's, when change began.

Same here in 2014 when Amtrak #3 paused for a few minutes and allowed us time to pose on the nose..
