Sorry guys. Took a short vacation to Santa Cruz with the family and forgot to start the thread. Not making it up to roaring camp this time so mostly just rusty rails around here.

Here are some old night shots from 2011 of Amtrak #1, the Sunset Limited.
Arriving in Houston on the misty evening of March 7. The private varnish will be added to the back end of the train.

Early the following morning in at Sunset Station in San Antonio. The PV are about to be uncoupled and set out to be attached to the Texas Eagle after it arrives.

From earlier in the week, two CSX units running light enter Devine Junction in Columbia, SC. Lines from former ACL, SAL and SOU all meet here.

    Nice San Antonio photo, Russell.(y)

For you snowbound folks, maybe this will help clear your driveways:

That big maw belongs to CN rotary 55361, a steam-powered unit built by MLW (basically, it's an Alco!) in 1928, and retired by CN in April 1965, still with its steam engine inside. The museum has some of the side access panels open so visitors can see the mechanism, which is pretty impressive. There's some massive metal parts in there, which gives you an idea of what kind of power was needed to drive that huge impeller.

Just to be sure, don't leave your cars in the driveway when this baby does its job.:D

About an hour after departing San Antonio on March 8, 2011, the Texas Eagle/Amtrak #22, passes some track workers south of Austin.

I'm uncertain where they came from and their appearance surprised me. An empty CSX coal train appeared first and then perhaps 30 Minutes later these two CSX units drifted in from the same direction. I'm guessing that they assisted the loaded coal train downstate and stayed coupled on the empty return until they were cut off at a suitable spot.

Lost in the north! Standing on the mainline by the depot. There is a loading dock covered in snow in the foreground. This was the tail of an empty coal train. PIC_0664.JPG
