    Happy May day.

No trains again this week. I'm a sad rail fan.

From 04/16/2021 at Clemson, SC (NS calls the location Calhoun), the Virginian Heritage Unit helps hustle stacks south.

Let's pull out a golden oldie...

GMD SW1200RS, CN 1382, beautifully restored and operational loco, at Exporail. It's missing its characteristic CN-style cylindrical spark arrestors, after a rebuild where its engine had its 567 power assemblies replaced with 645 power assemblies, whose exhaust system incorporates spark arrestors, all inside the hood.

Looks gorgeous on this sunny day, doesn't it?

I'm a litle late this week, but I did dig up this photo of an ex-Scoular cylindrical hopper in Marlette. These were very attractive cars when new, but all that remains of the graphics now are the faintest traces of the Scoular lettering and the husks of the two ears of corn on the other end of the car.

These cars used to show up here with fair regularity, but all that was left of the graphics were slight traces of the corn husks to the extent that I couldn't figure out what they had been. In fact, my LHS had a kit on the shelf for some time before I connected it with the workworn, weatherbeaten cars I had seen so many times. Fortunately, no one else had bought it before I got to it.

I went on a roadtrip to do some railfanning south of me. When I'm out in the rig, I see allkinds of trains. Out in my car on my day off, not so much. I did see this interesting lashup of power on a northbound BNSF manifest in Hanford, Ca. Four different lines!
