Looks good.:tb-biggrin: How much temperature difference does your layout endure? You may need to double up on PC ties as code 40 is pretty sensitive to temp./humidity changes. I had laid some with about the same PC tie spacing and had gauge problems, solder joints fail, you name it. I did this in a garage with 60+ degree changes. I laid a test section about a year ago, with every fourth tie being a PC tie. I've noticed absolutely no shift in gauge, no failed solder joints, etc...

On the other hand, if you have a controlled environment, the spacing could work fine.

It's a GP40, of which Santa Fe had only one- and IIRC, it's sporting the wrong number.

Also looks like it's a Bachmann offering, which IIRC I've seen with DCC decoders already installed.

Is this a Bachmann body on an Athearn chassis?

Hey! It took me a second to realize that I was able to read the Japanese text on the sign under the logo ("Hobby Center Kato"). It has been 11 years since I lived in Japan so I was sorta surprised I was able to still read it :) Those are cool pictures of the Kato Hobby Center. I never visited there but I can say that when I lived in Nagano, it seemed like there were great hobby shops on every corner. That picture also reminds me of the incredibly narrow streets in Japan--I think I spent just as much time driving in reverse as I did in forward. Jamie

You got it. It's a modofied Bachmann GP40 shell on an Athearn GP60 frame. It was a shotgun wedding. There was plenty of cutting and filing that had to be done but in the end I got it down to a tight pop-fit.

It's in a spare bedroom and the temp and humidity stays the same year round. I am not worried about the track failing. Even though the staging will be hidden it won't be covered so repairs, if needed, will be as easy as the mainline.

Even better:tb-wink: I plan on the spare bedroom thing in the near future. I love the looks of hand laid code 40.
