The MKT never had any light weight business cars. This is my interpretation of what one may have looked like if they ever did.
The Wortham Dairy Farm is complete (for the monent). This shows the working area with the owner and hand lifting hay into the loft, also the calf barn and "play" yard. Thanks to Bruce-in-MA for the idea of an abandoned siding. The rails are barely visible in front of the farm house and implement shed. The farm originally raised beef cattle, and the owner asked that a siding be installed for loading the steers for market. His sons changed the farm to dairy and the siding was abandoned, but the railroad forgot about it, so here it remains. (Truth - I put in the siding to serve a planned lumber yard, but the farm became a better idea. Removing a soldered-in turnout is a pain, so it stayed. Thanks Bruce for your idea.) The Holstien herd enjoys shade and the stock pond. The fence would have been easier if Basswood was available in 1/32"x1/32", but now that it's finished, I think the individual pieces of split 1/16"x1/16" look better than anything pre-cut. The next project will be to work on the Wortham Dairy Plant area in the background.
You're very welcome. That's a very nice scene! Glad I could provide some inspiration. Here's a variation of my abandoned line - an abandoned spur (and receiver) with the rails removed. Before the rail-trails went in around my area, one of the signs of rail activity were the ties that were left in place. I guess the iron was valuable enough to remove.
Hank, that's a great looking farm. Bruce, that abandoned spur is a nice touch. K4s No.1361 lead an East bound local down the Stoney Creek grade.
Very cool looking light weight Russell! Here is mine, The Three Stooges leading a westbound extra out of Eureka Yard through Katy, Tx
Awesome, I used to see the "Three Stooges" on the Salty heading down to Galveston through Dickinson, where I went to high school.
To insert images, click the image icon on in the post editor. By default it is set to "From Computer". If you want to post a file from your computer as an attachment, use this option. If the file is already online and you have the URL, select "From URL". I still don't know what "Retrieve remote file and reference locally" means, but when it's selected my images don't show either, so uncheck that box, paste your URL into the field, and you should be golden.
Old Kato 2-6-0 with funky 6-wheeled tender (originally a Japanese C50, I think) that somebody tricked out into a Rio Grande Southern. Picked it up today at the X2011 / National Train Show in Sacramento:
Mark, I did both. Got thye properties, etc., & it wouldn't go. It said I didn't have enough charicters to post. I also got the red X. I then enlarged my photo & copied it. It took when posted. On another note, Nice stuff everyone!
Private Road Name Covered Hoppers I have some favorite private road names so I made some decals to make these covered hoppers to operate on my own home layout. Virginian and Ohio Virginian and Ohio Allegheny Midland Cat Mountain and Santa Fe I saw the artwork in an NMRA Scale rails issue and transferred it to my computer. Then I re-accomplished the items I wanted using my own computer and a drawing application. The Cat Mountain and Santa Fe uses "Subway" True Type font which is free and close enough to the ATSF Cooper Black font. (I know...cheap!)
