This is a model I built of the Southern Pacific railroad bridge over the Brazos River in Richmond, Texas as it looked in 1950. It was a kit bash job using Kato Unitrak bridge sections so is not exact. A model of the old Highway 90 bridge can be seen behind it. It has been in the news lately because a recent flood washed away a major portion of the river bank exposing the base of the small pier on the left causing it to sink. It was repaired and the bridge was reopened to rail traffic for about a week before being shut down again because the next pier out started to sink also. The Union Pacific is now working to replace the second pier shown here with high water still flowing by it.
Russell, you can show those bridges anytime, I really like the looks of the overall scene! Managed to finish some cars this week! Front Range kit that replicates the Southern Railroads converted 50' Boxcars so they could handle the new 45' trailers coming out. The trailer is an old Durango Press kit I had completed years ago. Car was painted with Scalecoat II Boxcar Red and lettered with Mask Island Decals. (New set that we beggged Hubert to do so we had something else other than the NS decals I have for this car) Robbins Rails 50' PS1 Boxcar Kit, painted with Scalecoat II MofW Gray and lettered with Mask Island Decals. The CIRR later participated in the IPD car boom with some FMC 5347 which I will be doing in the future. Thanks for looking! Rick Jesionowski
Jim, that's a nice scene. I like the road surface. What did you use to use to make the oily(?) center between the tire tracks? I need to redo my disaster.
Union Pacific 2-8-0 Consolidation by Bachmann; I replaced the incorrect rectangular tender with a Vandy tender, and added directional lighting for my DC layout. John
Started weathering the decks of my BLMA PTTX 89' Flats. Gots to be dirty when there's no Napa Pipe loads on them!
Acryllic paint onto brush, dip into water with a drop of dish soap (with paint still on brush), apply to model. Move it around to get desired effect. Too light? Go back and use more paint. To dark? Get more water on the brush go back to model, and move the dark spots around. So far I have three colors on there so far. Weathered Black, Earth Red, and Rust.
Nice modeling. Painting and decaling is one of my favorite aspects of this hobby. Those are excellent.
About 10 years ago I worked in town and to go from the town parking lot to my office building I had to pass by this factory. The guys inside always seem to be interested in what I was wearing that day and let me know their approval. So I thought it would be fun to model that scene. .
I can't help but imagine Candy's scene with a yellow Connecticut company streetcar waiting for shift change. Since I moved here I've been exploring street railway history and it was remarkable !! I understand the E Hartford branch operated for a long time with ex electric locomotives. Prior to I think 1946 it was an electric operation . I think the E Hartford branch would make a wonderful little layout. Randy
I never knew what they made there. The company was J. D. Warner and Sons. A lot of big machines inside.
Candy Definatly need you on the sidewalk and the workers looking out the windows. I like your new avatar too
Thanks Cliff. I've been working a lot lately. But I do like to take time to post here every week if I can.
