These are some old Athern Blue Box passenger cars that I kit bashed for my dad's layout about 25 years ago. Those old kits were cheep and fun to slice and dice. That was back when there was not much available to compare to the ready to run models available these days. We still had fun. He would be 99 years old if he was still with us. I sure miss him.
I managed to cobble up a few cars this week! Athearn 2600CF Intermediate Airslide Kit, what a PITA to build, no instructions a drawing that includes the early Airslide parts, part numbers on the sprue that do match the part numbers on the drawing and more! Painted with Scalecoat II MofW Gray and lettered with Mark Vaughn Decals. Atlas 3650CF ACF Covered Hopper Kit, removed the cast on Roofwalk and Walkover Platforms and replaced with Plano replacements including the risers. Kit painted with Scalecoat II MofW Gray and lettered with Dan Kohlberg's ICG Decals. Exactrail 4427CF PS Covered Hopper Kit, painted with Scalecoat II MofW Gray and lettered with Oddballs Decals. Thanks for looking! Rick Jesionowski
New-on-the-property ATSF side-door caboose with lit markers awaits its next assignment while an ATSF RS-1 idles in the background in the Hannah Vista freight yard. John
Mike, love the "busy" look of your layout and the double mainline. Some eye-level pictures, with the flash off, would be awesome! John
Spent sometime last night and today working on this gondola. Started out with an Atlas Trall Gon in BNSF paint. Got rid of the offending letters (BNSF) with fingernail polish remover. Gave it the Turtle Creek Central treatment. WIll be dull coating and weathering soon. May paint the hoods orange, as the TCC would do... The H10-44 is an old Walther's model...used to be a SOO LINE switcher.
This type of Gon would handle plate steel that had been treated and needed to be kept out of the weather. It could also handle coils.
Thanks to a video on YouTube by Mike Fifer, I decided to work on my Blair Line Fred and Red's Café. 012 by WPZephyrFan posted Jan 24, 2016 at 6:12 PM
Russ, I sure like those cars and I can understand your connection with your dad, I had the same kind of connection with my son. Joe
