I agree! After watching the video, a loco that runs that wonderfully needs to be dolled up for the dance! Either way, wonderful work. These engines were the first I recall seeing in N scale as a kid. My cousin had a couple of them running around the Christmas tree, and as an HOer at the time, they mesmorized me. Even if they did run poorly.
I like the black, but would add a bit a shiney brass to it. If I were to redo mine, I'd go for Russian Iron/gun metal color. I have no clue what simulates it, but Walthers has an HO scale 4-4-0 in Russian Iron with gold pinstriping that I love.
This is a little Bachmann "0-4-0 Docksider" that I turned into a 4-4-0 and painted. I used gun metal for the smoke box cover and stack. Not really prototype for anything but runs real well with all wheel pickup Kato trucks on the tender.
That might be all it needs. The Brass Banding. I don't want to drag this discussion down. I mean we should all do what makes us happy in this hobby, I was only asking, because historically, the original paintjob would be more correct than plain black. Brass accents would be perfect.
You're doing no such thing. As I said, I'm partial to the black, but I do think it's missing that final...something. Every suggestion here is being carefully considered. If anyone has some reference of the way you'd do it I'd love to take a look.
^ I've always like the gun metal boiler jacket, the black smoke box, black stack, maroon domes (Soo Line would be a good choice). The brass brackets really make it pop!
More on the fish pier Yes, yes, I know the weekend is over, but my original shots are here. Finished painting and weathering my fish pier tonight. I realized after looking at the photos that I missed a spot. Lots of other details yet to add, cleats, a hoist chain, crates, etc...
Wow Scott. Awesome work, as usual! When I spotted the concrete arch highway bridge in the background of the lower photo, I recognized this location, and you nailed it! As Wayne and Garth would say, "we are not worthy!". Ron
