It's the leap year extra day special edition. I was looking at the extra pilot that came with my Kato GS-4 to mount with the long coupler for running on tight curves. Looked like the same pilot the T&NO used on the P-14 Pacifics for the Sunbeam. Well one thing led to another and pretty soon I was adding all kinds of stuff to my locomotive. New pilot, new skirts, smoke box door hinges, trailing truck etc. Before and after shots here.
River Eagle - cool shot. Long live the Daylight. Russ - Very nice re-do. Would the Model Power Pacific be a good candidate for a Sunbeam? What do you think? What to use for the nose cone?
Thanks. No, did not mess with the tender. I think the new Bachmann Vanderbilt is closer to what the prototype had than this old S2 Northern tender. I will probably just replace the whole thing. Trying to turn a pigs ear into a silk purse. I was totally disgusted when Con Cor released the streamlined Hudson in Daylight colors. Well I bought one anyway and this is what is left. The old Kato motor gave up the ghost so it is now sporting a new Kato Mikado motor with flywheel and all. It runs real nice. Carl, I turned the smoke box cover out of a chunk of steel on my lathe. Added a little more weight. This thing will drag the combined Sunbeam and Daylight cars that I have with no problem.
Russell, you have a very nice engine and tender set there. Looks like they own the road. :tb-biggrin: Here is a unique sight on the Seneca Sub. A rare sighting of a C&O Allegheny H-8 making its way slowly down the ready track as it waits to hook up to a freight consist and take the interchange back onto its own turf.
Hey, If you look REAL close, you'll see a bug deflector over the head light. Sorry to say,it blew off somewhere between lost & found.:tb-hissyfit: I love this next picture. You'll notice the deflector is gone already.

Here's an east bound coal drag leaving Dixon on the Myersville Branch, Scioto Division, N&W. I was fairly pleased with the lighting on this one. I used a 2 lamp halogen shop light on a tall stand and my inexpensive HP point-and-squirt camera. The photo reminds me of the early evening light during the midwestern summers of my childhood.
I decided to take a break from layout building and do some loco painting. I've been meaning to do a Blue Mountain RR loco for years and finally found the time a couple days ago. I still need to do a lot more detailing but here are the first photos: Here is 790 pulling a couple custom painted grain train cars up the grade. Brian
Here's an oldie from me; the Grain Train leaves the Westside area, San Antonio. This photo has many unfinished areas in it; I am beginning to work on these again, at last.
I've been busy over the past week adding some new 1930s-era vehicles to the streetscenes. Here are some recent photos Jon
Wow Jon, that looks great. I can't say it brings back memories because I have no memories of that era. Still looks very convincing.
I decided to try out a freight train on my Tohoku Shinkansen module and built a 51 car Erie Lackawanna manifest. The lighting in the video is terrible, so when I went back to the basement to shoot it under better lighting...I couldn't resist adding more cars. I added up to (around) 64 cars when the string lining began (on the curves outside the module)...so I went with what I had. I really need to get a real EL caboose one of these days. The F7s are Intermountain. [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uu1-7KL2o6Y"]YouTube - N Scale Erie Lackawanna Freight.[/ame]
Jon, your pictures look great. Very interesting period. Do you want to "install" people into the cars? Wolfgang
Hey Don, Where's NY-100? Love the auto parts cars. You've got to get ahold of Scott, & pick up one of his caboose kits.
Great photos and modeling everyone! The Daylight steamers look great! Jon Grant's scenes are just awesome!
