This weekend I am in Oklahoma City for the annual train show here. I brought my NTRAK modules depicting Richmond, Texas to set up with the groups from Austin, Dallas, Tulsa and Oklahoma City. Here is an old shot I took showing part of the modules that I will be setting up.
I finally got some cars finished this week! I managed to finish another Anderson's Covered Hopper conversion, it only took a month this time instead of 20 years! I also got the brake gear under the B end of the car instead of the A end and I included all the piping to the various components. Another straggler, I build this Hi-Tech Models' 40' Pullman Standard Hi-Cube Boxcar over four years ago but procrastinated on ordering some decals from ICG Decals by Dan Kohlberg. I got the decals, painted the car with Scalecoat II IC Orange and Black, along with Floquil Platinum Mist for the roof. Car is in the Appliance Pool assigned to the NYC at Appliance Park in Louisville, KY While ordering the decals for the above car, I also ordered a set for a 60' Pullman Standard Boxcar, better known as a Fisher Body car as they were mostly used in GM Auto Parts traffic. The car is a IMRC kit, painted again with Scalecoat II IC Orange and Black Paint with a Roof painted with Floquil Platinum Mist. Car is used in GM Parts business and assigned to the Saginaw, MI plant. I also ordered some other decals from Dan Kohlberg and will be doing those cars in the near future, along with starting another Anderson's Car. Thanks for looking! Rick J
What your seeing the the tarp that covers the grain on these cars. The Anderson's purchased the Ex-Wabash Panel Side Hoppers, added an extension to the side for more cu ft capacity and a canvas tarp that covers the grain from inclement weather, etc. They were used between the Maumee, Ohio Elevator and the export elevator on the Maumee River in Toledo, OH using the N&W trackage (Ex NKP/Wabash) between Maumee, OH and Toledo, OH. John, real nice photo! ! The Joshua trees really set the scene. Well done, I suppose that you had to make the Joshua's. carl
The process is evolving. The tree on the right was from my first batch, but it is lacking texture on the trunk or branches. The tree on the left has sifted sawdust for texture that looks great in person, but it is difficult to see with all the dead leaves(grass) that I added. I hope to post a fresh batch later today without the dead leaves added. Here is the method I based my process on but these are HO where mine are N scale. I also use a fine bundle of wire and do not solder so that I can bend the branches as desired when finished. The white glue actually holds up better than I thought it would. http://www.trainmaster.ch/Y-106-2.htm Thanks for the compliments.
