For this week I think I will revisit one of my favorite passenger trains. Took these shots long ago and just rescanned them on my new slide scanner.
It is a plustek OpticFilm 8100. It comes with SilverFast 8 software. I still have to learn all the cool stuff it can do like dust removal and color correction. Being lazy, I just moved these into Adobe Photoshop to crop, correct the exposure and remove any dust. This scanner has a USB output so I can plug it directly into my MAC. My old scanner has a parallel port only so I keep one of my ancient PCs alive upstairs in my train room to support it. Then I have to copy the scanned image onto a floppy diskette to move it over to the MAC downstairs and load it on an external floppy drive with a USB. And then I can clean it up in Photoshop. The new scanner sure speeds up the process.
Candy proving again that it's the little things that make the scene - window shades, the trash can (must be new as the collectors apparently haven't had their fun with it) and the fire escape. Nice work!
Interesting scenes, indeed! My first car was like the one being washed as depicted above, (only without the cute gals). My car was a ragtop though. You do such fun things, Candy!
Great shots, everyone. Here's a couple that I actually took ... Thursday, I think? Starting the weekend just a little bit early. I was experimenting with aperture and zoom with some new/old lenses I acquired, so from a photographic perspective, they're really just experiments, not attempts at "good pictures". This first one was shot from about 7 feet away at 210mm, f/22, 1/30, ISO400 on my new Lumix G5. I'm pretty happy with the lighting. Wish I'd stopped down just a bit less to get the "188" in focus. Amtrak 188 by BGTwinDad, on Flickr This one is just a nice broader-angle shot on the same scene, sort of gives a better idea what the whole scene will look like when complete. Railroad yard in front, town park in the back. I think this was 70mm, f22, 1/25, ISO400 from the same spot but higher angle, same camera. Amtrak 188 by BGTwinDad, on Flickr This one was from about 30" away with a different lens. Can't recall the settings. Amtrak 188 by BGTwinDad, on Flickr The station is still very much "under construction". Lots of touch-up and detail to add.
Some oldies from the 60's and 70's. Trix engine and a E&H boxcar. E&H Models Hobbies was the one I ordered from back then. Curtis
My Maine Central GP7 earns its keep. It's a Proto 2000, and about the worst runner I have, although my other Protos are very reliable.
Lovely photo up there, Mike. Looks just like the real thing, and tack sharp, too. Here is an oldie from me.
Good stuff, I try to bracket my shots now using my D3100 and both lens. starting at F 18 and work up and down ... much easier today than 20-30 yrs ago with film ... got to be expensive to say the least . Also I shot my stills ( in door ) at ISO 100 and the cool thing is the stacking soft ware that I think Mike H uses to get such awesome focus on his like the one in this thread .
