So then is that No Loitering sign with threat of a fine aimed at railfans? Regardless, that kind of thing can bring unwarranted trouble to a simple and innocent visit trackside.
From May 1984 at Montgomery AL, SCL GP-30 1309, former SAL 500. She later became BN/BNSF 2805, a GP39M.
Whoa now, don't be giving them ideas here Actually, I had to go back and look and see what that said. At least one of the other pics had the whole sign in it. It's a slightly different word but may still apply to those discarding their film boxes or empty Buc-ee's coffee cups.
I thought Thirty Thursdays was yesterday? I didn't get the memo... Here's one, in Great Falls, MT in 2007.
When I took this shot back in the late 80'sI think this unit was still operable but belonged to a rail historical society or museum I think. Was so lost and never really knew for sure the story on it.
When I was a teen in the '70s, we'd travel every summer to NJ for a big family visit. I'd hang around the Black River & Western as much as possible and I distinctly recall seeing an Atlas (Roco) N Scale PRR GP-30 in a private passenger car window and I was transfixed by it. I so wanted one. A number of volunteers on the railroad slept aboard private cars during weekends and one of them must have set it there. It's funny what sticks in our minds. Here's CR 2233 as preserved at the RR Museum of Pennsylvania, across the street from the Strasburg RR. If volunteers are available, the cab can be visited. The Museum is open Wednesday through Saturday, 10 am to 4 pm, and Sunday, noon to 4 pm. Outside yard closes 3:30 pm. Check the website for holiday closings.
Look what Santa left by the Christmas Tree! I keep asking Jolly St Nick for one, but keep getting HO scale ones...
