Finished a project that has been setting on my bench since spring. A buddy picked up a lot of three basket case Arnold GG-1's at an auction. They were all new part except for one but had been used as parts donors for other repairs. All were missing motors and worm gears. Combining parts from the 3 of them, 2 MP15 motors from Atlas, and some worms from Kato, we now have 2 very good running loco's. Better than the orignal GG-1. I decided to paint up one of them in the CR 4800 Bicentenial paint.
A few more after recent work. I'm using a Nikon Coolpix L6 with fixed focus. I'm still experimenting with settings and lighting. Without an SLR, it's difficult to figure the depth of field.
I don't know what happened to text on the first try.Anyway, here are some pictures of my second try at scratch building.Still needs rafters, interior and weathering.I need to tone down that roof some too.
Wonderful pictures, as always, everyone! The crew of CH&FR 3500 has been getting in the holiday spirit...
Only a real railfan would place his double-wide mobile home here on this lot in the Oregon desert between the UP and BNSF main lines. I think he's made the best of it with the viewing deck complete with gas grill and swinglounge. The layout in N scale. The double-wide mobile home is by NuComp.
This weekend I was with my Club the Beaverton (Or) Modular Railroad Club at the Portland Christmas Bazaar. I was there Friday and Sunday. Here are some photos. My brand new Atlas NRE GS21B Genset pulls a string of bulkhead flats loaded down with jumbo Cedar planks pas theAirport. One of the other members just recently got this Wheeling and Lake Erie 2-6-6-2 from Bachmann. Alas, the valve rod design is...lacking. It threw all 4 of them in the course of about half an hour. Luckily that club member had parts with him to replace the parts with better ones. Our youngest club junior member at 9 had these 2 atlas GEs hauling a 40 car train around the layout. These are both DCC/Sound units and sounded great. Today, I brought my LL SD9 Blackwidow and Superdetailed Athearn BB GP38-2 to pull a Typical oregon train, a couple covered hoppers, Chip cars, Centerbeam flats and Paper boxcars. The SD9 I bought for $20 at a show. It had NWSL gears in it, so it crawls.
Another Clubmember's NYC 4-6-2 passes the 40 car train. This is a BLI unit with sound and Smoke. A big crowd pleaser. 3 Milwaukee U23Bs deftly handle the Cedar plank train as the NYC fast freight and the 40 car drag move through the yard. Would you believe this little guy is DCC? Well, it is. This afternoon,Portlanders enjoy my passenger train passes a much shorter modern freight train behind the same GEs. Depending on your proclivities, you can take my train to be 1972 Amtrak or 2010 railfan special. BN F9, SP Baggage, ATSF shorty Coach, NP Coach, NP Roomette, Zephyr Coach. The Television everyone is watching is connected to a receiver for a small wireless camera that's being pushed around on a flat car. It is an absolute crowd pleaser. I'm currently working to mount one in an engine.
Southernman, great structure! I like it. Last night I did run a few trains. Here're pictures from the local at Third Street District. Wolfgang
